Newtown Podiatry

If you spend your shift on your feet — hospitality, retail, healthcare, trades — foot pain is an occupational injury, and it responds to the same principles as any other overload problem.

Podiatry for Newtown patients at Hyper Health Marrickville

Podiatry at Hyper Health is delivered by Ray Nguyen, whose practice centres on thorough gait analysis and lower-limb assessment. Ray holds a Bachelor of Health Science and a Master of Podiatric Medicine, and has worked across hospitals, aged care and multidisciplinary allied health settings.

Appointments for Newtown patients are seen at our Marrickville clinic at Shop 1/20-22 Station St, open seven days. Because we also have chiropractors, physiotherapists and massage therapists on site, problems that turn out to sit above the foot do not require a separate referral and a three-week wait — we can bring a colleague in directly.

What an initial appointment involves:

  • A history covering your symptoms, footwear, activity and any relevant medical conditions
  • A physical assessment of joint range, strength, skin and circulation
  • Gait analysis, walking and running where relevant
  • A working diagnosis explained in plain terms, and what it means for you
  • A treatment plan with a realistic timeframe, and the cost of anything recommended stated up front

We are registered for private health rebates with HICAPS on site, and we see NDIS participants — see our NDIS podiatry page for how that works.

Standing all day is its own load

Prolonged standing loads the foot differently to walking. Without the cyclic unloading that comes from taking steps, tissue sits under sustained compression, circulation is reduced, and the intrinsic foot muscles fatigue in a way they do not during movement.

The result is a predictable cluster: arch ache that builds through the shift, forefoot burning, heel pain, and swelling by the end of the day.

The fixes are mostly practical. Appropriate footwear with adequate midsole cushioning and a heel counter that actually holds. Rotating between two pairs so the midsole recovers. Anti-fatigue matting where you can influence it. Calf and intrinsic foot strengthening so the tissue tolerates more.

Getting your work footwear right

Safety and hospitality footwear is often chosen for compliance and price, and the difference in comfort between an adequate pair and a poor one over a ten-hour shift is substantial.

Bring your work shoes to the appointment. We can assess the wear pattern, check the fit against your actual foot dimensions, and tell you what specification to look for in the next pair.
