Summer Hill Podiatry

Routine podiatry in later life is not cosmetic maintenance. It preserves mobility, and mobility is what preserves independence.

Podiatry for Summer Hill patients at Hyper Health Marrickville

Podiatry at Hyper Health is delivered by Ray Nguyen, whose practice centres on thorough gait analysis and lower-limb assessment. Ray holds a Bachelor of Health Science and a Master of Podiatric Medicine, and has worked across hospitals, aged care and multidisciplinary allied health settings.

Appointments for Summer Hill patients are seen at our Marrickville clinic at Shop 1/20-22 Station St, open seven days. Because we also have chiropractors, physiotherapists and massage therapists on site, problems that turn out to sit above the foot do not require a separate referral and a three-week wait — we can bring a colleague in directly.

What an initial appointment involves:

  • A history covering your symptoms, footwear, activity and any relevant medical conditions
  • A physical assessment of joint range, strength, skin and circulation
  • Gait analysis, walking and running where relevant
  • A working diagnosis explained in plain terms, and what it means for you
  • A treatment plan with a realistic timeframe, and the cost of anything recommended stated up front

We are registered for private health rebates with HICAPS on site, and we see NDIS participants — see our NDIS podiatry page for how that works.

Why regular review matters more with age

Several things change together. Skin thins and heals more slowly. Nails thicken and become harder to cut safely. Circulation and sensation may reduce. Reaching the feet becomes harder, and eyesight may make self-inspection unreliable.

The practical consequence is that problems which would once have been trivial — an overgrown nail, a corn under a toe, a small break in the skin — become sources of pain, infection and, critically, altered walking.

Altered walking is what leads to falls. That is the real argument for routine care, and it is a strong one.

What routine care involves

A typical appointment covers safe nail care, debridement of corns and callus, skin assessment, circulation and sensation checks where indicated, and footwear review.

We also assess balance and walking pattern, because a change there is often the first sign that something needs attention. Home visits and aged care settings are familiar territory for us.
