What we treat
Chiropractic at Wetherill Park covers the mechanical problems people most often arrive with:
- Low back pain — acute episodes, disc-related pain, and the long-running kind that has never fully settled
- Neck pain and stiffness — including pain that followed a change in desk setup, a car accident or a poor sleeping position
- Headaches with a neck component — where moving the neck reproduces or eases the symptom
- Shoulder, elbow and wrist pain — from repetitive load at work or in the gym
- Hip, knee and ankle problems — including the ones that only show up under load
- Sports and gym injuries — and the return-to-training decisions that follow them
- Jaw pain and clicking — assessed alongside the neck rather than in isolation
Some presentations need medical assessment before manual therapy: unexplained weight loss, fever with back pain, a recent significant trauma, progressive weakness in a limb, or any change in bladder or bowel control. If any of those apply, see a doctor first — and if you arrive with one, we will tell you so rather than treat around it.
How an appointment works
The first visit is mostly assessment. History first — when it started, what provokes it, what you need to get back to — then a physical examination that tests movement, joint function and strength rather than assuming them, and an orthopaedic or neurological screen where the presentation calls for one.
You should leave with a working diagnosis in plain language, a plan with a timeframe attached, and something to do between appointments. If we expect a meaningful change in four weeks, we will say four weeks, and if you are not tracking against that we reassess rather than repeating the same session.
Treatment may include manual adjusting, low-force instrument-assisted techniques, soft tissue work, dry needling and taping. If you would rather avoid manual adjusting altogether, say so — there are effective alternatives and they are used here regularly, not offered grudgingly.
Manual therapy changes how a joint moves on the day. Loading changes what the tissue can tolerate, which is what decides whether the change holds. That is why an exercise prescription comes with the treatment rather than instead of it.
Training, sport and the Wetherill Park caseload
Wetherill Park trades as Hyper Health Athletics, and the name reflects who walks in: powerlifters, footballers, and people training seriously around shift work and full-time jobs. Rehabilitation for that group has to respect the training goal.
A plan that says "stop lifting for eight weeks" is usually ignored, and reasonably so. We work out what load the injured tissue currently tolerates, keep you training around it, and progress from there. Return-to-sport calls are made against strength symmetry and tolerance of sport-specific load, not time elapsed since the injury.
Because physiotherapy, podiatry and massage all run from the same address, moving between disciplines does not need a referral or a second waiting list. If the assessment points somewhere other than chiropractic, we say so and hand you across.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a referral to see a chiropractor?
No. Chiropractic is a direct-access profession in Australia, so you can book straight in. A referral is only required for a Medicare chronic disease management plan arranged by your GP, or for certain DVA and workers compensation claims.
Can I claim on private health insurance?
Yes. HICAPS is on site, so your rebate is processed at the appointment and you pay only the gap. What you get back depends on your fund, your level of extras cover and how much of your annual limit you have used.
Does an adjustment hurt?
Most people describe it as brief pressure followed by relief. Some soreness for a day afterwards is common, particularly after a first visit, and settles on its own. If you would prefer low-force techniques, tell us at the assessment and we will use them.
How many appointments will I need?
That depends on how long the problem has been there and what is driving it. A recent complaint often changes within a handful of visits; something long-standing takes longer. You will get an expected range at the first appointment, and we reassess against it rather than running open-ended care.
What are the opening hours at Wetherill Park?
